DHAKA, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - The supervisor and assistant of a bus have confessed to their involvement in the killing of a passenger whose body was found on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway with scotch tape wrapped around his mouth and other parts of his body.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Sunday granted four days' remand for bus driver Sohail Rana in connection with the case.

Police produced the three accused before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka. The investigating officer sought permission to record the voluntary confessional statements of bus supervisor Saju Laskar and assistant Mahbub Alam Moni, while seeking a seven-day remand for driver Sohail Rana for further investigation.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Albiruni Mir recorded Saju's statement, while Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Siddique Azad recorded Moni's statement. Both were later sent to jail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam granted a four-day remand for driver Sohail Rana after hearing the investigating officer's application.

According to the case statement, Ismail Hossain left Jamalpur for his home in Gazipur at around 4:30 am on September 4. He was carrying Tk 5 lakh in cash, received from the sale of ancestral land, along with food items.

His son, Md Hasan, waited for him at Jirani bus stand in Gazipur but could not contact him as his mobile phone was switched off. After waiting until 10 am, Hasan returned home.

At around noon, a neighbour received a call from Banani Police Station informing the family that Ismail's body had been found. Hasan later identified his father from a photograph.

Police recovered Ismail's body from the Kakli-to-Kuril-bound lane of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, between pillars 179 and 180, in the Banani area. The Tk 5 lakh in cash and the goods he was carrying were missing.

Police found injury marks on his body, while his nose, head and right wrist were bound with white scotch tape.

A murder case was filed with Banani Police Station against the accused under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the Penal Code.
