4 get life term in arms case in Sirajganj

SIRAJGANJ, Jan 14, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced four persons to life term imprisonment each in an arms case in Shahjadpur upazila of the district in 2018.

Joint District and Sessions Judge Court Special Tribunal-4 judge Supriya Rahman pronounced the verdict this noon, said M Hadiuzzaman Sheikh APP of the court.

The convicts are -  Ershad Ali, son of late Osman Fakir of Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur upazila, Nazrul Islam, son of late Akbar Sheikh, a resident of Pabna Sadar upazila, M Abul Hasem, son of late Nasir Uddin of Pabna’s Sujanagar upazila and Hasan Ali, son of Nazrul Islam, a resident of Panksa upazila in Rajbari district.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that on February 8, 2018, the convicts snatched over Taka 1.56 lakh from M Ashraful Islam, an employee of Sajeda Foundation, at gunpoint at Barabil village of the upazila.

 After hearing the hue and cry of Ashraful, local people came and beat up the accused and handed them over to the police.

Police inspector KM Rakibul Huda of Shahjadpur Police Station took the accused into custody and filed a case against them under Section 19-A of the Arms Act of 1878.

The judge after examining 10 witnesses and evidence found them guilty and announced the verdict.
