CHATTOGRAM,  Jan 19, 2025 (BSS) - The 89th birth anniversary of the architect of multi-party democracy and founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was celebrated  today in a befitting manner.

The programmes included rallies, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Ziaur Rahman at his first grave at Zianagar and city’s Biplopuddayan, cultural functions, discussions, winter clothes distribution and other programmes.

 Different political parties including BNP and its front organizations and socio-cultural bodies  arranged colourful programmes to mark the day.

City Mayor Dr Shahdat Hossain, BNP vice Chairman former Minister Abdullah Al Noman, BNP central leaders Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, Golam Akbar Khondoker, City BNP President Earshadullah and leaders of different cultural organizations placed wreaths at the portrait  of Ziaur Rahman at city’s Biplopuddayan today.

Separate discussion meetings on the life and works of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman were held at different area including Biplopuddayan maidan this afternoon.

City Mayor Dr Shahdat Hossain, BNP vice Chairman former Minister Abdullah Al Noman, BNP central leaders Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, Golam Akbar Khondoker, City BNP President Earshadullah and leaders and activists of BNP addressed the separate discussion meeting.

Another discussion meeting on the life and works of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was held at Hathazari Bus stand area this afternoon.

Earlier, Chattogram city BNP paid tributes to the Architect of multi-party democracy and founder of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at his first grave, at Zia Nagar area under Rangunia upazila of the district.

City BNP president Earshadullah and its General Secretary Nazimur Rahman led the function.

Chattogram North and South District units of BNP also arranged separate   Khatme Quran and discussion meetings on the occasion.

Marking the day, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, all educational institutions in the city, including Chattogram University, Chattogram Medical College, Chattogram University of Engineering Technology (CUET), University of Science and Technology in Chattogram and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University also held discussions on the life and works of Ziaur Rahman.

Besides, the party flag was hoisted atop at the party's Kazir dweuri office and other party offices in different upazila of the district.
 
Winter clothes were distributed among the poor at different upazila of the district on the occasion.
