Banned ex-BCL leader remanded in murder case

NATORE, Jan 27, 2025 (BSS) – Former general secretary of the banned 
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)  Md Riazul Islam Masum was taken 
on a two-day police remand for interrogation in a murder case. 

Chief Judicial Magistrate of Natore Al Amin passed the remand order as 
Masum was placed before the court with a petition of seeking five days 
remand.

Masum will be interrogated at the police station in connection with a case 
for killing a garments businessman Mehedi Hasan Robin after abduction 
at the residence of former Awami League lawmaker Shafiqul Islam 
Shimul on August 5 in 2024.

The victim’s maternal uncle Sohel Rana filed a murder case against 137 
including ex-lawmaker Shimul and remanded accused Masum in this 
connection on August 26. 
 
Masum, who was a close aid of Shimul and a candidate in the last 
Natore Sadar Upazila chairman election, is accused in seven cases 
including murder.
