Man gets life term for killing wife in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Jan 28, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced husband Osman Gani, 38, to life imprisonment ten years after he killed his wife Manjuara Khatun in Mustafapur Barbigha village of Badarganj upazila in the district. 
 
At the same time, the court sentenced the convict to a fine of Taka 10,000 and another six months imprisonment in default. 
 
Judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir of the Rangpur Senior District and Sessions Judge's Court delivered the verdict in absence of the convict this afternoon. 
 
Convicted Osman Gani is the son of Md Shahidul Haque of Mustafapur Barbigha village of Badarganj upazila. 
 
According to the prosecution, Osman Gani married Manjuara Khatun, daughter of Md Amjad Hossain, of the same area.
 
After marriage, the couple often quarreled due to poverty in the family. 
 
At one stage on the night of September 24, 2015, Osman Gani killed his wife Manjuara Khatun. 
 
In this incident, Amjad Hossain, the father of the deceased, subsequently filed a murder case with Badarganj police station against Osman Gani as the plaintiff. 
 
After conducting investigation into the case, police submitted a charge sheet accusing Osman Gani to the court.
 
The court delivered the verdict today after taking the testimony of 19 witnesses. 
 
Public Prosecutor (PP) of Rangpur Advocate Md Aftab Uddin for the state and State Defense Lawyer Advocate Sultan Ahmed Shaheen for the accused conducted the case.
