RANGPUR, March 10, 2025 (BSS) - The district administration has demolished at least 31 illegal brick kilns in different upazilas across the Rangpur district over the last seven days.

Talking to BSS, Rangpur Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ramiz Alam said the administration is prepared to destroy 141 more unauthorized brick kilns in the district.

Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal has recently said there are a total of 240 brick kilns in the district. At least 172 of the total brick kilns lack mandatory environmental licenses and are manufacturing bricks shunning government rules.

"This is not only polluting the environment but also degrading the fertility of the land by removing the topsoil. Consequently, it's causing huge negative impact on agriculture," said Rabiul Faisal.

He, however, noted that the High Court has recently ordered demolition of all illegal brick kilns across the country.

"In line with the High Court order, a drive has been launched to close the unauthorized brick kilns across the district," said the Deputy Commissioner.
