KHULNA, March 10, 2025 (BSS) - The National Disaster Preparedness Day was observed here today through fire and earthquake drill and discussion.

This year, the theme of the programme was set as 'Disaster Forecast and Preparedness Save Lives and Reduce Losses'.

Marking the Day, a discussion was held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office.

District relief and rehabilitation officer Md. Abdul Karim presided over the meeting and deputy commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam attended it as the chief guest.

"Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. Disasters do not come with prior notice, but preparedness can significantly reduce casualties and damage. Some disasters are man-made, such as road accidents and gas cylinder explosions. Early intervention and proper training can help prevent and control such disasters," said Saiful Islam.

District livestock officer Dr. Md. Shariful Islam, assistant commissioner of KMP Shihab Karim, assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Md. Abu Bakar Zaman, revenue officer of KCC SKM Tasadduzaman and assistant meteorologist Md. Mizanur Rahman spoke at the event, among others.

Government officials and NGO representatives were also present at the meeting.

Earlier, a demonstration on fire safety and earthquake preparedness was held at the Khulna Collectorate premises to raise awareness about self-protection during disasters.
