Five get life term in Pirojpur murder case

PIROJPUR, March 17, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced five persons
to life term imprisonment in a murder case at Kaukhali upazila of the district in
2005.

The court also fined them Taka 5,000 each, in default, to suffer three months
more in jail.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Moktagir Alam handed down the verdict
this afternoon.

The convicts are Salam Howlader, 50, son of Sultan Howlader, Md. Alamgir, 58,
son of Mohabbat Ali, A. Malek, 66, son of A. Aziz, Md. Firoz Molla, 57, son of
Majid Molla and Ayub Ali, 58, son of Alfaz Ali.

According to prosecution story, on November 3, 2005, a group of robbers
attacked and looted goods of Rafiqul Islam’s bicycle parts shop in Kapalirhat
Bazar of Uttar Sialkathi of the upazila.

At that time, the nearby people came running after hearing Rafiqul's screams. The
robbers fired several rounds while fleeing. As a result, Mizan, son of A. Chomed
of the area, was shot in the stomach and died while undergoing treatment in the
hospital.

After the incident, the shop owner Rafiqul Islam filed a murder case with
Kaukhali Police Station accusing 10/12 unknown people.

The judge after examining witnesses and evidence found them guilty and
announced the judgment. The court also acquitted seven persons as the charges
against them were not proven.
