Child artist Gungun shines with own radiance, talent

DHAKA, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - Child artist Gungun Majumdar glows in her just nine year old with brightness of extraordinary talent and radiance, winning thousands hearts by storytelling, recitation, dancing and singing. She earned fame taking part in extra-curricular activities along with her studies.
 
Gungun is the eldest daughter of Shyamal Kumar Majumdar, principal of Uttar Abhaynagar Technical School and College in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore, and housewife Deepti Kona Chandra. She is a third-grade student at Computer Little Jewels School.
 
Gungun has achieved the distinction of winning the national best (first place) in the storytelling competition at the Phulkuri Asar at the national level, going beyond the upazila, district and division. The competition was held in Dhaka on October 19 last year.
 
Besides, she became champion in the folk dance category at the Shishu Kishore Padak-2024 competition at the Khulna divisional level, second in Kathak dance at the Jessore district level children's competition in 2022 and first in Kathak dance, second in folk dance and third in singing at the upazila level. 
 
In 2023, she became first in the recitation competition at the upazila level, second in Kathak dance and third in folk dance at the children's competition.
 
Shyamal Kumar Majumdar said, "My daughter Gungun first became third in the Jessore district level recitation competition on the occasion of World Children's Day and Child Rights Week in 2020. In the same year, she came first in four competitions - dance, recitation, storytelling and singing - at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Independence at the upazila level. After that, she went beyond the district, upazila and division and recently achieved the distinction of being the best in the country (first place) in the storytelling competition at the national level Phulkuri Asar."
 
Gungun's mother Deepti Kona Chandra said, Gungun has separate teachers for recitation, singing and dancing. When she gets time, she plays with her one and a half year old younger sister Aroni Majumdar, she added. 
 
She said the two sisters have a sweet relationship. 
 
Gungun said, "My mother is my inspiration. And when storytelling competition nears, both my father and mother play the role of teachers. In the future, I dream of becoming a good doctor and serving the helpless people, as well as becoming the best dancer in the country. When I get free time, I spend my time with drawing.
 
Mahfuza Begum, Principal of Computer Little Jewels School, said, Gungun has been a brilliant student since kindergarten. 
 
"Now she is a student of third grade. Due to her talent, the school's reputation has spread nationwide."
 
Mahfuza Begum prayed for Gungun's bright future.
