DHAKA, March 18, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today convicted and sentenced one Ziaur Rahman to death in a case lodged over the rape and subsequently murder of an adolescent girl in Dohar in 2018.
 
Judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 pronounced the judgment in the convict's absence, as he has yet to be arrested. The court also fined the convict Taka two lakh.
 
The court ordered Dhaka district magistracy to sell movable and immovable properties of Ziaur, son of Sheikh Sona Miah of village Banaghata under Dohar Police Station, and sell those to realize the fine and give to the victim's family, prosecutor Ershad Alam (George) told BSS.
 
According to the case documents, the victim went to collect vegetables from the garden near their house at around 9 am on October 21, 2018. As she was returning home after collecting vegetables, Ziaur grabbed her and took her to a nearby garden and raped her. He cut her throat with a knife and dumped the body in the garden.
 
The victim's father filed the case with Dohar Police Station in this connection. Police on March 12, 2019, filed a charge sheet against Ziaur Rahman. The court later framed charges against the sole accused and today came up with the judgment after examining 18 witnesses on different hearing dates.
