550-year-old fair to begin in Bagerhat from Sunday

DHAKA, April 11, 2025 (BSS) - A 550-year-old traditional fair called 'Chaitra Sankranti Mela' will begin at the shrine of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (R) in Bagerhat from Sunday.

Marking the fair, the organizers have already taken various arrangements and thousands of men and women from different districts of the country are flocking to the fair premises to participate.

It is known that the fair is being held regularly at the shrine of Khan Jahan Ali (R) during the full moon of Bangla month Chaitra. The fair will officially begin on Sunday morning and will continue till Tuesday evening.

However, locals said that though the fair holds for three days, but people coming from different parts of the country generally take at least seven days to leave the fair premises.

Meanwhile, extensive arrangements are underway at the fair premises. Around one hundred shops will be set up in the vast grounds of the dargah. 

Traders from Satkhira, Kushtia, Jessore, Narail, Rajshahi, Pabna, and Dhaka will bring their stalls, selling various items including home decoration tools, modern design furnitures, decorative items, toys, household products such as palm leaf fans, clay plates, dolls, etc. 

There will also be fashion jewelry, various clothes, sweets, and various food stalls at the fair. 

In addition, there are various entertaing arrangements including holy bathing in the dargah pond, crocodile exhibition, Nagardola, horses, and toy trains for the children. 

Above all, the organizers are busy making the fair enjoyable for the visitors.
