THAKURGAON, April 11, 2025 (BSS) - At least two classrooms and a seminar room were gutted in a fire at Collectorate Public School and College here in the district last night.

One of the affected classrooms was being used for the ongoing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations.

The fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit, said Md. Robiul Islam, team leader of the Thakurgaon Fire Service and Civil Defense.

"By the time we reached the scene, two classrooms and a seminar room had already been burned down," he said.

Thakurgaon deputy commissioner and also president of the school's governing body Ishrat Farzana visited the site around 10:00pm.

She said a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the cause of the fire.

The remaining SSC examinations would be held in a different room, she said.
