Case filed against 22 people for killing elephant

CHATTOGRAM, April 11, 2025 (BSS) - Forest Department filed a case against 22 people on charge of killing of a wild elephant and trafficking of its tusks and nails in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram.

Chechuria Beat Officer Alamgir Hossain filed the case with Banshkhali thana last night mentioning the name of two people and unidentified 20 people.

The two identified accused are Md Sarwar Hossain, 48 and Md Zafar, 52, both hailed from Purbo Chechuria village under Banskhali upazila of the district.

Confirming the matter to BSS, Chattogram South Forest Division Officer Abdullah Al Mamun said the case has been filed under Sections 36(1) and 36(2) of the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act 2012.

According to Forest Department officials, the incident took place at Chechuria forest Beat under Jaldi Range, where a 6-7 years old male elephant was killed using sharp weapons.

The tusks and nails were later trafficked by the alleged accused, officials said.
