Man held in Jessore rape case after 12 years

JESSORE, April 12, 2025 (BSS) - The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a fugitive accused in a 2013 child rape case from Pagladaho village of the Jessore sadar upazila today.

Accused Abdul Khalek, 44, son of Munsur Ali of Pagladaho village, had been on the run for 12 years.

Jessore DB Police officer-in-charge Monjurul Hoque confirmed the arrest.

Police said the incident took place in Math Para of Pagladaho village in 2013 and had drawn nationwide attention at that time.
 
Following the incident, a case was filed and the court issued an arrest warrant against Abdul Khalek. The government also announced a reward for information leading to his capture.

Police sources said Abdul Khalek had been in hiding for years, concealing his identity.

However, recent intelligence revealed that he had started visiting his village again. On information, a DB police team conducted a raid and arrested him.

Abdul Khalek was produced before the court and later sent to jail, OC Monjurul Hoque said.
