Police submit charge sheet in Magura child rape case

MAGURA, April 14, 2025 (BSS) - Police submitted a charge sheet last night accusing four individuals in connection with the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Magura.

Magura Sadar Thana Police submitted the charge sheet to District Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Abdul Matin at 10pm, confirmed Mirajul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Magura District Police.

Hitu Sheikh has been charged as the prime accused in the rape and murder case.

The other accused are Hitu Sheikh's wife Jaheda Begum, his son and victim's brother-in-law Sajib Sheikh and Sajib's brother Ratul Sheikh.

The 8-year-old girl, resident of Zaria village of Sreepur upazila in Magura was reportedly raped at her sister's in-laws' residence in Magura Sadar on March 5.

Following the incident, she became critically ill. Later, victim's mother, Ayesha Khatun, filed a rape case with Magura Sadar police station against four people on March 8.

The victim passed away on March 13 while undergoing treatment. The incident triggered widespread protests in Magura and across the country, with demands for exemplary punishment for those responsible.
