Pahela Baishakh celebrated in Ctg amid festivity

CHATTOGRAM, April 14, 2025 (BSS) - Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1432, was celebrated in the port city and different upazila in Chattogram and its adjacent districts today in a befitting manner.

The district administration, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), different socio-cultural, professional and business organizations, NGOs, private bodies and educational institutions chalked out colourful programmes for welcoming the Bengali New Year.

Marking the day, Chattogram district administration brought out a colourful rally from Chattogram Shilphokala Academy premises this morning.

People from all walks of life, including government and private officials, wearing traditional dresses and carrying festoons, placards, banners and singing "Esho Hey Boishakh Esho Esho" participated at the 'Baishakhi' rally.
 
To mark the occasion, a discussion meeting, prize distribution and cultural program were organized at 8:30 am at the District Shilpakala Academy premises. 

Earlier, CCC Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain participated the New Year celebration rally brought out at Aparnacharan City Corporation Girls' High School and College in the city this morning and extended greetings to the people.

Teachers, students, officials and employees of various educational institutions of the City Corporation, including people from different classes and professions, participated at the rally.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Mohammad Ziauddin led a colourful 'Baishakhi' rally which concluded at Shilpakola academy premises.

Besides, Chattogram district administration also organized a discussion at Shilpakala academy around 8.30am. 

Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin addressed the function as chief guest and Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Farida Khanom presided over the function.

Additional DIG of Police (Crime Management) of Chattogram Range Wahidul Haque Chowdhury and Deputy Commissioner of CMP Nesar Uddin Ahmed addressed the function as special guests. 

Besides, District Ansar-VDP Commander Md. Abu Solaiman and District Women's Affairs Deputy Director Atia Chowdhury among others spoke at the event. 
 
Later, the guests distributed prizes among the winners of the drawing and writing competition organized at the District Shishu Academy.
