KHULNA, May 14, 2025 (BSS) - Like previous years, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will open the cattle market at Zoragate wholesale kitchen market premises one week before the Eid-ul-Azha.

The decision was taken at a meeting regarding the management of the Qurbani cattle market operated by KCC, held yesterday afternoon at the KCC's Shaheed Altaf Auditorium.

The meeting was chaired by KCC Administrator and Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar.

Addressing the meeting, KCC administrator stated that this year's cattle market will operate from the same location without any changes. To ensure smooth and organized market management, a coordination committee has been formed comprising representatives from various departments.

Law enforcement agencies will maintain strict vigilance to prevent any kind of irregularities or extortion. Measures will also be taken to stop the forced unloading of cattle from transport vehicles arriving from distant regions.

To prevent the use of counterfeit currency during the buying and selling of animals, booths with machines to detect fake currency will be available at the market.

Additionally, temporary sheds and toilet facilities will be arranged for sellers to rest. WASA will ensure a steady supply of water throughout the market duration.

The administrator also informed that arrangements for medical treatment will be made in case people or animals fall sick due to excessive heat or any other reason.

KCC's chief executive officer Laskar Tajul Islam, deputy police commissioner (North) of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Abul Bashar Mohammad Atikur Rahman, additional district magistrate Dipankar Das, deputy police commissioner (Traffic) Sudarshan Kumar Roy, KCC secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, acting chief engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan, chief revenue officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, ward officials of KCC, officials from various government departments, KCC officers from different sections and members of law enforcement agencies, among others, attended the meeting.
