NARSINGDI, May 25, 2025 (BSS) - The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested three individuals involved in the killing of a 20-year-old youth, Shuvo Mia, whose body was recovered a day after he went missing in Narsingdi. Seventeen days after the murder, the case has finally been solved.
The arrestees, all known drug users, have confessed to killing their friend over a dispute regarding drug collection.
Addressing a press conference this afternoon, Additional DIG and PBI Narsingdi Superintendent of Police SM Mostain Hossain confirmed the matter.
The arrested individuals are Md Habibur Rahman (24), son of Jakir Hossain of Sheikharchar Mollapara under Narsingdi Sadar; Md. Kabir Hossain (21), son of Delwar Hossain of Kurerpara under Madhabdi Police Station; and Ahmmad Nayeem (24), son of Md. Jalal of Kumartek under Palash Police Station.
According to the PBI, Shuvo Mia, son of Manik Mia from Sheikharchar Mollapara, left home on the evening of May 6, after which his mobile phone was switched off.
When he did not return home that night, family members began searching. The following day, May 7, his body was found beside a roadside ditch about two kilometers from his residence.
Following the recovery of the body, Shuvo's elder brother, Md. Shahed Mia, filed a murder case against unnamed persons with Narsingdi Model Police Station.
PBI's crime scene team launched a shadow investigation into the incident alongside local police. Based on intelligence and digital surveillance, the PBI conducted drives on May 20 in Kanchpur (Narayanganj) and Matlab (Chandpur), and arrested the three accused.
During the operation, Shuvo Mia's mobile phone was recovered from Habibur Rahman. During primary interrogation, the accused admitted that they were close friends and regularly consumed drugs together in different places.
On the night of May 6, Shuvo, along with Habibur, Kabir, Nayeem, and another friend, consumed drugs near Shuvo's house. Earlier, on the evening, Shuvo contacted Habibur via Messenger to learn about his whereabouts. Habib and the others informed him that they were near the northern side of Janer Mukh Bridge in Khidirpur, Madhabdi. Shuvo joined them about half an hour later, and the group again took drugs together.
While under the influence, an argument broke out between Shuvo and Habib regarding the procurement of drugs. In a sudden fit of rage, Habib began choking Shuvo and punching him. Kabir, Nayeem, and the other friend joined in, attacking Shuvo indiscriminately. At one point, they found a discarded cow rope nearby and used it to strangle Shuvo by pulling from both ends. After confirming Shuvo's death, they dumped the body in a roadside ditch and threw the rope into a canal before fleeing to unknown locations.
All three arrestees gave confessional statements before the court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), admitting their involvement in the murder.
Efforts are underway to arrest another accomplice, who remains at large, the PBI official added.
