KCC forms 5-member committee to monitor development projects

KHULNA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) has formed a five-member committee to monitor ongoing development projects in the city.

The committee, led by KCC's Chief Executive Officer Laskar Tazul Islam, has been directed to commence its activities within the next 15 days. 

The decision was announced by KCC Administrator and Divisional Commissioner Md Firoz Sarkar during a meeting held at the GIZ conference room on Sunday afternoon.

The meeting focused on the project titled "Urban Development in Khulna City Area to Address Climate Change Impacts (Phase-2)," which is being implemented by KCC.

Administrator Firoz Sarkar stressed the importance of ensuring that the project is executed efficiently and within the designated timeframe. He also reiterated that all components of the project must be completed by the scheduled deadline of June 30, 2027.

The meeting also reviewed several key sub-projects, including the development of the Alutala and Labonchara sluice gates, Rupsha Riverfront Park, Nirala Canal, and the Sonadanga Bypass Road (stretching from Sonadanga Bus Stand to Moyur Bridge).

The total project budget is estimated at Tk 491.29 crore. Of this, the German Development Bank (KfW) is providing Tk 312.28 crore, the Government of Bangladesh is contributing Tk 178.01 crore, and Khulna City Corporation is allocating Tk 1.00 crore.

During the meeting, KCC's Chief Planning Officer and Deputy Project Director Abir Ul Jabbar presented the project's concept paper.

KCC chief executive officer Laskar Tajul Islam, joint secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Al Mannan, deputy secretary Mostafizur Rahman, KCC secretary Sharif Asif Rahman, acting chief engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan and other officials from various government departments were present at the meeting.
