CHATTOGRAM, June 01, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court placed Osman Ali and Md Alvin, the brother and nephew of notorious fugitive Sajjad Ali, also known as Boro Sajjad, on a three-day remand in connection with the recent murder of suspected gangster Dhakaiya Akbar.

The court of 5th Senior Metropolitan Magistrate Nusrat Jahan Genia granted the remand today after hearing a petition filed by police investigators.

Law enforcers sought a five-day remand, but the court approved three days for interrogation.

The two were arrested earlier in the week during separate drives.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested Osman Ali from Panchlaish while Md Alvin was detained by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7) in a coordinated operation.

Their arrests follow the killing of Ali Akbar, also known as Dhakaiya Akbar, who was shot on the night of May 23 while socializing with friends at Patenga sea beach.

He later succumbed to his injuries on May 25 at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Following the murder, Akbar's wife Rupali Begum lodged a case with Patenga police station, naming 11 individuals as accused.

Sajjad Ali, alias Boro Sajjad, has long been on the run and is considered a top-tier criminal. He was previously charged in the infamous Bahaddarhat eight-murder case that took place on July 12, 2000.
