KISHOREGANJ, June 11, 2025 (BSS) - Two cousins drowned while bathing in a pond adjacent to Pitua Bazar in Kadirjangal Union of Karimganj upazila here around 2 pm today.

The deceased are Yasmin, 8, daughter of Shafiqul Islam of Pitua village and Tayeba, 9, daughter of Russell Mia. They were students of a local primary school and are cousins of each other.

According to locals, Yasmin and Tayeba went to the pond near their house to bathe around 12:30 pm. When they did not return home after a long time, the family started searching. Later, during a search of the pond, their bodies were recovered stuck under the mud.

They were rushed to Karimganj Upazila Health Complex where emergency department doctor Dr. Hadiur Rashid declared the two children dead.

Confirming the incident, Karimganj Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Riyad Shahed Rony said, "The two children were brought to the hospital dead."

Karimganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Mahbub Morshed said the bodies have been sent to the deceased's house.
