PIROJPUR, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court has seized three dredgers for illegal sand mining in the Kancha River of Indurkani Upazila of the district.

Executive Magistrate and Indurkani Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Hasan-bin-Muhammad Ali led the mobile court operation over the Kancha and Baleshwar rivers on Wednesday.

The court also realized Tk 3 lakh as fine in this connection.

Due to illegal sand mining, the natural balance of the river is being destroyed, erosion is taking a severe form and public life is being threatened, Muhammad said.

"Our campaign to prevent this destructive activity at any cost will continue," he also said.

Earlier, on August 17 last, the district administration cancelled the lease of the sand quarry at that place and issued a new notification to release it.

The upazila administration operated this mobile court due to illegal sand mining by an influential group ignoring the order.
