RANGPUR, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested Awami League (AL) leader Md Mithun Chowdhury, 55, an accused in the auto-rickshaw driver Manik Mia murder case, from the city's Harirampur Nayabazar area today.
 
"We arrested Mithun Chowdhury from the Harirampur Nayabazar area of Rangpur metropolis at 12:45 pm," Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahajan Ali told BSS this afternoon.

Mithun Chowdhury is the former Darshona Union President of Awami League. He is the son of the late Naya Mia of the Harirampur Nayabazar area. 
 
He is the 57th accused in the martyr Manik Mia murder case filed at Tajhat Metropolitan Police Station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police on June 6, 2025.
 
Earlier, Manik Mian, 35, son of late Sekendar Ali, of the Purbo Ghaghot Para area of the city's Ward No 15, was killed in police firing while taking part in the anti-discrimination student movement in the city on July 18 last year. 
 
"We produced Mithun Chowdhury before the Rangpur Metropolitan Magistrate Court from where he was sent to jail this afternoon," the OC added.
