DHAKA, Aug 20, 2025 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today seized a huge quantity of Indian cosmetics worth about Taka 1.25 crore in Habiganj district.

The cosmetics include cumin, face wash, skin whitening Sunrise Skin Cream, and Clope-G Cream, said a BGB press release.

Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) of the BGB conducted the raid this afternoon acting on a secret information that a huge amount of illegal Indian cosmetics were being taken from Sunamganj in an oil lorry for smuggling to different parts of the country.

Following the information, the BGB personnel took position on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and asked a suspicious oil lorry to stop, but ran away leaving the vehicle.

Later, the BGB members seized the lorry and searched inside the vehicle and seized a large amount of smuggled goods, including various types of Indian cosmetics.

The value of the seized goods is Taka 1.25 crore.

In this regard, Habiganj Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Tanzilur Rahman said that smugglers were trying to smuggle goods to different parts of the country by adopting this new strategy to evade the eyes of law enforcement agencies by filling the oil tankers with goods in a novel way.

He said that the BGB has always adopted a 'zero tolerance policy' in border security as well as in preventing smuggling and drug trafficking.

"No matter how innovative strategies smugglers adopt, BGB will always take a strict stand against them and prevent smuggling," he said.

The seized smuggled goods were handed over to Habiganj Customs Office through proper legal process.
