RANGPUR, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - The joint forces in a drive seized 1,079 bottles of rectified spirit and arrested two persons in this connection from the Jamtola area of the Pirganj upazila in the district on Thursday afternoon.

The arrested were Shree Sukanta Chandra Barman, 34, son of Basanta Chandra Barman and Md Rakib Hossain, 22, son of Rabu Hossain of Hariram Sahapur village under Pirganj upazila.

"On a tip-off, members of the Bangladesh Army and Police raided a warehouse, recovered the huge quantity of illegal rectified spirit stored there, and arrested two men in this connection," Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station Md Shafiqul Islam told BSS at 6:35 pm.

The rectified spirit is a deadly drug, the OC said, adding: "A big drug syndicate is allegedly involved in trafficking and illegal business of the drug."

The law enforcement agencies are conducting round-the-clock operations to arrest all members of the drug syndicate.

"Legal action has been taken against the arrested people after filing a case against them under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018 at Pirganj Police Station," the OC added.
