Pellets removed from Swechchhasebak Dal President Jilani’s body in successful surgery

DHAKA, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Health Affairs Secretary and physician Dr. Rafiqul Islam removed the pellets from the body of Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Jilani in a successful operation.

A surgery was performed on the body of Swechchhasebak Dal President SM Jilani at Bangladesh Medical University and the bullets, fired by the police were removed from his body. 

Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Associate Professor of the Urology Department of Bangladesh Medical University, performed the successful surgery. 

Other members of the surgery team included Dr. Saiful Islam, Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Dr. MA Kamal.

Dr. A.N.M. Monowarul Qadir Bittu (former Joint Secretary General, DAB), Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Mofakhkhurul Rana, Swechchhasebak Dal Vice President Dr. Zahidul Kabir and Joint Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Mizanur Rahman were also present.

SM Jilani was seriously injured in police firing during a BNP rally on October 28, 2023 during Awami League regime.

Although a small number of pellets were removed initially, some pellets remained in his body. 

BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam said that Jilani's physical condition is currently stable.  

Jilani's family has sought prayers from everyone for his recovery.
