SYLHET, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) – The district administration of this northeastern scenic hub today promised to put in their all efforts to restore the original shape of White Stone tourism spot by putting the illegally extracted milky quartz back in their original shape.

“I want to work on priority basis on the environment, tourism, and law and order of Sylhet,” newly appointed deputy commissioner (DC) or administrative chief of the district Md Sarwar Alam told reporters.

He added: “I will try my best to restore the original form of Sadpathar (white stone) tourist area”.

Alam called Sylhet “daughter of nature” and vowed to ensure that all development works to be done in the district keeping the environment intact as much as possible.

His comments came as media reports in recent days sparked a nationwide uproar over the illegal extraction of white stones from tourism spots by vested quarters in a coordinated manner particularly at Bholaganj area of Companiganj upazila.

Alam was talking to reporters during his visit to the scene at Bholaganj Whitestone area of Companiganj upazila when he said measures would be taken simultaneously to ensure that no more stones were stolen from the area.

He said an investigation would be launched to find out how the illegal extractions were carried out and who were involved in the process.

“People have already taken a stand against this looting,” the official said.
