RANGPUR, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizens Party (NCP) Member-secretary Akhtar Hossen said that the Jatiya Sangsad elections should be held after reforms and constitutional amendment through Constituent Assembly elections.

“But many people only want the Jatiya Sangsad elections to take place ignoring necessary reforms. The interim government has to come to a decision on these issues so that it can organize the Jatiya Sangsad elections at the right time,” he said.

Akhtar Hossen said this while talking to journalists during a public rally at Ambari in the Haragachh area under Kawnia upazila of Rangpur on Thursday afternoon.

The NCP Member-secretary said that the interim government can hold elections within the already given time frame.

“However, before that, the interim government must implement the reform programmes, improve the judiciary to a visible level, ensure impartiality at the field level and secure a level playing field,” he said.

Akhtar Hossen said that many discussions have been held on the reforms that are needed in the constitution, judiciary, administration, and every place in Bangladesh.

“The sooner the interim government can ensure these things, the sooner it can hold elections,” he said.

He said that the NCP has been able to expand across the country in a very short time and is working to make the reforms and justice visible, including the Constituent Assembly elections.

“We are also working to shape public opinion so that the government can implement the reform programmes that it has brought to the discussion. We can pave the way forward by taking the masses with us in any democratic movement,” he said.

The NCP Member-secretary said that when the people's aspirations change in any society and when a new political group emerges, the Constituent Assembly elections play a crucial role there in creating a constitutional structure.

He distributed pamphlets on justice, reform, Constituent Assembly and national election ideas and addressed street rallies in different areas of Haragachh town and Kawnia and Pirgachha upazilas of Rangpur-4 constituency today.

First joint coordinator of the Rangpur Metropolitan NCP Alamgir Suman, Rangpur District Joint Coordinator NI Suman, and leaders of the Rangpur district and metropolitan NCP accompanied Akhtar Hossen in the programmes.
