Health officials report 5 deaths, 311 fresh cases of dengue inflection overnight

DHAKA, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - Health officials today said they recorded 311 fresh cases of dengue onslaughts killing at least five persons in the past 24 hours with most patients reporting in health facilities in southwestern Barishal region.

"During the period, (of the 311) 82 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division" which appeared to have been the worst victim of the mosquito carried diseases, a Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) statement said.

It said among the rests, 37 were hospitalised in Chattogram division, 42 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 61 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and 51 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, 15 in Khulna division, two in Mymensingh division and 21 in Rajshahi division.

Since the start of the dengue onslaughts Bangladesh this year witnessed so far 110 deaths while the disease inflicted 27,782.

The dengue last year claimed 575 lives and inflicted 1,01,214 people in the country.
