Dumping to prevent river erosion begins in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, June 12, 2025 (BSS) - Water Development Board (WDB) began geo bag dumping to prevent the severe erosion in the river Jamuna in Islampur Upazila of the district this afternoon.

Former Cabinet Secretary and BNP Chairperson’s Adviser ASM Abdul Halim formally inaugurated the dumping work at Kasari Doba village in Sapdhari union in the Upazila.

WDB has taken the 210-meter long dumping activity at Kasari Doba area in Sapdhari union of the upazila at a cost of Tk 2.10 crore.

Speaking at the inauguration meeting, ASM Abdul Halim also Chairman of House Building Finance Corporation said the immediate past fascist government plundered huge money in the name of protecting river erosion. He said lack of proper step of protecting river erosion many families became homeless, he added.
 
Executive Engineer, WDB, Nakibuzzaman Khan, BNP leaders Nabi Newaz Khan Lohani Bipul, Joynal Abedin Sarkar and Dhaka University Teacher Dr. Saber Ahmed Chowdhury Taposh spoke at the meeting.

 Later, ASM Abdul Halim distributed relief materials among the recent storm affected 500 families in Shildaha ,Sindurtali, Barul and Munniar Char  villages in the Upazila.
