CHATTOGRAM, June 14, 2025 (BSS) - Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr. Shahadat Hossain today urged all to work together to restore democracy by setting aside differences and supporting BNP in the upcoming national elections.
He made the call while addressing an Eid reunion event following Eid-ul-Azha at the Samarnika Community Center on Love Lane in the city.
He mentioned that following a productive meeting last Friday between BNP Acting-Chairman Tarique Rahman and the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a clear political message was conveyed that a participatory national election is scheduled for February 2026.
The route of establishing a democratic government based on national unity under the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has been illuminated.
It is essential for everyone to collaborate in order to guide the country back to the democratic path by setting aside differences and supporting the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the upcoming national elections.
BNP Vice-Chairmen Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, BNP Chairperson's Advisor Dr. Sukomal Barua, Central BNP Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam, Labour Secretary A M Nazim Uddin, City BNP Convener Ershad Ullah, BNP leaders Abul Hashem Bakkar, Shamsul Alam, Hommam Quader Chowdhury, Abu Sufian, Chattogram Press Club Member Secretary Zahidul Karim Kochi, Sammilit Peshajibi Parishad Member Secretary Dr. Khurshid Jamil Chowdhury and Former Bar Council Member Advocate Badrul Anwar, among others, addressed the function.
Dr. Shahadat Hossain emphasized that despite facing legal cases, attacks and persecution for the past 16 years, thousands of leaders and activists have remained dedicated to BNP in the democratic movement.
None of them have switched to the Awami League. These selfless leaders and activists will rise to leadership in the coming days.
“It is important to be cautious of those who have recently joined the party after August 5 and are creating confusion...If there is evidence of their association with the Awami League, they should be removed from their posts. To strengthen the BNP, we must recognize the contribution of grassroots leaders and activists,” he said.
Any evidence of fascist Awami League oppressive actions against individuals should be reported to the central and metropolitan offices.
At the outset of the event, special prayers were offered for the eternal peace of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, the swift recovery of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, and the good health of Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
