BHOLA, July 8, 2025 (BSS) – Launch services in eight river routes in the coastal region remained suspended due to heavy rainfall and strong monsoon winds leading to swelling river water in the region.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has instructed the launch owners not to ply water vessels in the routes as the coastal belt remained turbulent due to the influence of the monsoon wind.

The river routes are- Bhola-Lakshmipur-Char Fashion-Monpura, Tajumuddin-Monpura, Dowlatkhan-Alekjander, according to M. Riad Hossain, assistant director of BIWTA, Bhola.

However, the lives of people in the coastal district became devastated due to incessant rains during the last four days.

According to met office sources, the highest rainfall in the district has been recorded at 132.6 mm in the last 24 hours till 12:00 noon today (Tuesday).

Meanwhile, the normal life of the people has been disrupted in the district resulting to heavy rainfall. Even the water logging problem has been created on different roads including the main road of the district town.

The people’s life at the upazila town also has been hampered due to continuous rainfall. Even the lower income people including Rickshaw pullers, day laborer and small businessmen are suffering immensely due to the rainfall.

The highest rainfall during this season has been recorded at 132.6 mm during the last 24 hours and the rainfall will continue till July 12, said Manirul Islam, an observer of Bhola regional meteorological department.

The meteorological department has asked to hoist local cautionary signal no-3 at Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Pyra sea ports due to the inclement weather.

So, BIWTA has announced halting of the launch movement temporarily on internal and long eight route of the Bhola district.

Even the heavy rainfall along with raising the water flow in different rivers also caused immense suffering for the several hundred people living at the lower lying areas in the district.
