Train-truck collision leaves 1 dead, several others injured in Khulna

KHULNA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) – One person was killed and several others were injured following a head-on collision between a train and a truck in Khulna tonight. 

The accident occurred around 8:15 pm today at the Afil Gate area under Khanjahan Ali Police Station in the city. 

Following the incident, train operations that remained suspended for one and a half hour resumed to and from Khulna around 9.45pm.

Ferdous Alam Khan, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulna Railway Police Station, confirmed the accident and said the down ‘Mahananda’ train was heading toward Khulna when it collided with a truck that had entered the railway track. 

He could not initially confirm any casualties but acknowledged that train service was halted after the collision.

Contacted, Khanjahan Ali Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabir Hossain said that the truck got stuck on the railway crossing at Afil Gate Bypass Road when the train hit it, dragging the vehicle along and causing three coaches of the train to derail. Several passengers were reportedly injured in the crash.

A seriously injured an elderly man was rescued by locals and taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where duty doctor declared him dead. 

Md Shafiqul Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sonadanga police station, said an unidentified elderly man was killed in the accident.
