Babul elected President of Morelganj BNP, Mehedi General Secretary

BAGERHAT, Aug 17, 2025 (BSS) - The biennial council of Morelganj Upazila Unit BNP concluded yesterday with Shahidul Haque Babul elected President and Adv Mehedi Hasan Yad elected General Secretary. 

Khadem Niyamul Nasir, convener of the Morelganj-Sharankhola Upazila Election monitoring Committee, announced the results. A total of 1,135 votes were cast, marking the first direct election of its kind in 18 years.

Shahidul Haque Babul was elected President with 535 votes, Adv. Mehedi Hasan Yad as General Secretary with 582 votes, Sabina Yasmin Tulu as Organizing Secretary with 489 votes, and Firoz Shah Talukder with 386 votes. 

The council session began at 11 am at AC Laha Secondary School ground with the hoisting of national and party flags and the playing of the party anthem. 

Shahidul Haque Babul presided over the function. Among the guests were Babu Jayanta Kumar Kundu, Khulna Divisional Co-Organizing Secretary of BNP's National Executive Committee; Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Vice-Chancellor of the Open University; Wahiduzzaman Dipu, Member of the National Executive Committee; MA Salam, District BNP Coordinator. 

Engr. ATM Akram Hossain Talim, Convener of Bagerhat District BNP, inaugurated the council. 

Around 10 thousand leaders and activists of the local BNP were present at the event.
