KHULNA, Aug 17, 2025 (BSS) - The prevalence of coronavirus and dengue has reportedly declined in Khulna.
Deputy civil surgeon Dr. Sarkat Md. Rezwanul Haque came up with the observation at the monthly meeting of the district development coordination committee.
He, however, said removing stagnant water from flower tubs, coconut shells, old tires, or a similar container is crucial to prevent dengue.
Dr. Sarkat said typhoid vaccination will begin under the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) from October, and public awareness is essential in this regard.
The district development coordination committee meeting was held on Sunday at the conference room of the Khulna Deputy Commissioner (DC) with DC Md. Saiful Islam in the chair.
DC Saiful Islam said waterlogging remains a significant problem in various parts of Khulna, noting some recent initiatives have reduced public suffering to some extent.
He, however, assured permanent solutions to waterlogging in the district.
To ease waterlogging in the flood-prone district, particularly in Fultala and Dumuria areas around Beel Dakatia, the Sholmari sluice gate has been opened and pumps have been installed to drain water, he said.
As it is currently the transplanted Aman paddy season, efforts are underway to overcome the waterlogging situation and bring as much land as possible under Aman cultivation.
At the meeting, Islamic Foundation assistant director Muhammad Ashraf Ali said pre-registration for Hajj in 2026, both under government and private management, will remain open till October 12.
He assured those who register by depositing Tk 30,000 will face no risk of fraud under government arrangements, and pilgrims will receive all entitled facilities during Hajj.
Meanwhile, district fisheries officer Md. Badruzzaman announced that the National Fisheries Week will begin on Monday.
The program will start at 9:00am with the release of fingerlings into the pond at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna city, followed by a colorful rally and discussion at the DC's conference room.
