July Martyrs' Day Observed in Magura

MAGURA, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - A discussion meeting was held in Magura today to commemorate "July Martyrs' Day" in honor of the students martyred in the anti-discrimination movement.

Organized by the Sadar Upazila Administration, the event took place at 11:00 am at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium.

The meeting was presided over by the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, with Deputy Commissioner Md. Ohidul Islam attending as the chief guest. 

Family members of the martyrs, anti-discrimination movement leaders and representatives from various government and non-government organizations were present.

Speakers at the event said the nation would forever remember the sacrifices made by the martyrs. They noted that the movement was not just political, it was a historic struggle for the rights and dignity of ordinary citizens.

In his remarks, the Deputy Commissioner recalled the mass uprising in Magura, which claimed ten lives, including four from Sadar Upazila.

He stated that the government has taken steps to support the families of the martyrs. In the first phase, financial assistance was provided, while in the second phase, each family received savings certificates worth Tk 10 lakh.

He further mentioned that a regular monthly allowance programme is ongoing for the injured and the families of those killed.

The event concluded with a special prayer seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of the martyrs.
