25th death anniversary of journo Shamsur observed in Jashore

JASHORE, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - The 25th death anniversary of renowned journalist of the south-western region, Shamsur Rahman, was observed here today with various programmes.

Shamsur Rahman, the then Bureau Chief of the daily Janakantha, was gunned down by a group of miscreants at his bureau office here on July 16, 2000.

The journalists in Jashore has been observing the day for the last 25 years, and as part of their yearly programme, they observed the day by wearing black badges, offering fateha at the grave of Shamsur Rahman, holding a memorial meeting, and organising a doa mahfil.

A large number of journalists, including President and General Secretary of Jashore Press Club Zahid Hassan Tukon and Tawhidur Rahman, and presidents and general secretaries of both journalists' unions of Jashore-Sajedur Rahman Bakul, Md Akramuzzaman, Habibur Rahman Milon, and S M Farhad-took part in all the programmes.

Chaired by Press Club President Zahid Hassan Tukon, speakers at the memorial meeting expressed their dissatisfaction and dismay over the delay in holding the trial of Shamsur Rahman's killers.
