MEHERPUR, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Mourning Day was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country today marking the 'July Martyrs' Day'.

A discussion and dua mahfil were held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner around 3.30 pm in memory of the martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement at the initiative of the district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Sifat Mehnaz presided over the meeting. 

Moderated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Tariqul Islam, it was addressed, among others, by Principal of Meherpur Government College Professor Nazrul Kabir, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad Samiul Haque, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khairul Islam, Deputy Director of the Islamic Foundation AJM Sirajum Munir, District Information Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, BNP member Romanara Ahmed, District Jamaat Secretary Ruhul Amin, Anti-Discrimination Student Representatives Khandaker Muiz Uddin, Hasnat Zaman Saikat, Ashiq Rabbi. 

A special prayer was offered for eternal peace of the departed souls of martyrs after the discussion meeting.
