Schoolboy drowns in Khagrachari

KHAGRACHARI, July 16, 2025 (BSS) - A schoolboy drowned in the Maini river at Dighinala upazila of the district today.

The deceased was identified as Md. Saimon, 8, a student of class four of Al-Quran Academy and son of Md. Khorshed Alam, a resident of Dakshin Milanpur area under Kabakhali union of the upazila.

Simon was going to meet his uncle along with his younger brother this afternoon. While walking alongside the river, shoes of his younger brother fell into the river and Saimon tried to pick it up and fell into the water. He lost his balance due to the river current and drowned. 

Dighinala Fire Service quickly rushed to the spot and recovered the body with the help of local from the river bank adjacent to the Maini bridge after half an hour, Dighinala Fire Service Station Officer Pankaj Barua said.
