RANGPUR, August 4, 2025 (BSS) - Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Highway Police Rangpur region Mohammad Tariqul Islam has said that school students' awareness of traffic rules and road safety is very important to control road accidents on highways.
"A review shows that many factors are involved in road accidents. However, the most important thing to prevent accidents is public awareness," he added.
Mohammad Tariqul Islam said this at an awareness workshop on road accident prevention with school students held at Moidandighee Bilateral High School of Boda upazila in Panchagarh under the Boda Highway Police Station area of Rangpur Region as the chief guest.
With the Headmaster of the school Md Golam Rasul Shahin in the chair, teachers, Officer-in-Charge of Boda Highway Police Station Md Osman Gani, and more than three hundred students attended the workshop.
In the workshop, Mohammad Tariqul Islam gave a PowerPoint presentation on the causes of road accidents, traffic rules, social and economic impact of road accidents, and what students can do to prevent accidents.
He said that the Highway Police Rangpur Region has emphasized creating adequate awareness among school students under its public awareness-raising programme in addition to enforcing the law to prevent accidents on the highways.
The target of this public awareness-raising program is to make the school students aware of traffic rules, road accidents, road safety, and its effects.
The Superintendent of Police later answered students' questions on various issues related to road accidents.
