One million trees to be planted to create green city: Shahdat

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - City Mayor Dr. Shahadat has announced a tree planting program to plant one million trees in the city for environmental protection. 

"The goal is to develop Chattogram as a clean and green city to provide a healthy environment for children", he added.

Dr. Shahadat made this announcement at the inauguration of the week-long tree fair organised by Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) at Laldighi Maidan. The fair featuring 61 stalls showcasing trees of various colors will continue until August 19.

The Mayor expressed gratitude to the students participating in the fair, emphasizing the importance of trees as our best friends. He also stressed the significance of tree planting as a virtuous deed and encouraged students to participate in tree planting activities.

Dr. Shahadat recalled Bangladesh's rich forest heritage and the need for collective efforts to combat deforestation and create a green urban environment. He urged everyone to actively engage in tree planting and adopt habits that promote cleanliness and hygiene.
 
The Mayor also advised students on proper waste disposal practices and personal hygiene routines for their physical and mental well-being. He emphasized the importance of diligence and solidarity among students.

The event was attended by the Chief Executive Officer of CCC, Sheikh Mohammad Tauhidul Islam, high officials of CCC, departmental heads, branch heads, and students from various schools.
