Chemical-mixed shrimp seized, five traders fined in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court on Wednesday seized 50 kgs of chemical-mixed shrimp and fined five traders for injecting harmful substances into shrimp in Koyra upazila of Khulna. 

Acting on a tip-off, the Bangladesh Navy's Koyra contingent raided the house of Gafur Gazi in North Madinabad village at noon. The contingent, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Abdullah Al Baki, recovered around 50 kgs of shrimp injected with harmful substances, including jelly.

The mobile court later imposed a total fine of Tk 50,000 on three accused, including Md Sajidul and Minhajul, sons of Md Nazrul Islam of Madinabad village, along with three other traders. The fines were imposed under the Fish and Fish Products (Inspection and Quality Control) Act, 2020.

The seized shrimp were destroyed to prevent further consumption.
