CHATTOGRAM, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - A four-day Janmastami programme, marking the holy birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu community, will begin on Saturday in the port city and elsewhere across the country.

The Sree Sree Janmastami Udjapan Parishad Bangladesh (SSJUPB) disclosed this at a press conference held at its head office in the city's Rahmatganj area today.

SSJUP leaders highlighted different aspects of the programme at the press conference.

The central committee is preparing for the Janmastami Mahashobhayatra, a historic event that will take place on August 16. The procession will start at 10 am from the Andarkilla intersection.

The procession route will cover Teribazar, Lal Dighi, Kotwali, New Market, Tin Pol, Bose Brothers, DC Hill, Cheragi Pahar and JM Sen Hall.

Advisers, politicians and intellectuals are expected to take part in the procession.

The celebration will also include a writing competition, a classical concert and a grand prayer ceremony.

A youth conference will take place at JM Sen Hall around 2 pm on Saturday. Following that, at 3 pm, former Member of Parliament and Barrister Rumin Farhana will be the chief guest at the mothers' conference. Later, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP's standing committee, will be the chief guest at the religious conference at 5 pm.

The committee has put forward ten demands, including ensuring the safety of the Sanatan community and enacting minority protection laws.

They called upon members of the Hindu community and other relevant individuals to come forward to make the celebration a success.

RK Das Rupu, General Secretary of the central committee of SSJUP, read out the written statement at the press conference.
