DHAKA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - The authorities have dismissed a sub-divisional engineer of Public Works Department (PWD) for prolonged unauthorised absence and professional misconduct, an official statement said here today.

“The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has dismissed Sub-Divisional Engineer (Civil) Debtosh Deb on charges of ‘misconduct’ and ‘fleeing’ as he remained absent from his workplace without permission,” the ministry statement read.

It said Deb was dismissed from service through an order issued on August 12, 2025 under Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018 after exhausting required procedures and securing the presidential approval.

According to the statement a departmental case was filed against the engineer while a subsequent official investigation proved the charges ahead of issuance of the dismissal order, signed by Housing and Public Works Secretary M Nazrul Islam.

It said Deb went to Canada on a 15-day earned leave on February 27, 2024 to visit his ailing sister but remained absent in his workplace despite expiry of his leave, defying an official directive and ignoring a show cause notice.
