KHULNA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - A team of the joint forces in separate drives arrested two individuals and seized different home-made weapons from Khulna city and district early today.

In Khulna, members of the joint forces arrested Shamim Bande alias Babu, 30, a leader of the outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party, with home-made weapons.

On a tip-off, Shamim Bande, a follower of second-in-command of the banned extremist group Purbo Banglar Communist Party Bitu Moeen, was arrested while a joint operation led by the Bangladesh Navy was carried out around 2 am near Islamiya College in the Chhoto Boyra area under Sonadanga Police Station in Khulna city, according to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Navy on Thursday.

During the operation, five rounds of home-made ammunition, eight knives, four machetes, two cleavers and one Chinese axe were seized.
 
Later, the arrested man and the seized items were handed over to Sonadanga Police Station for legal action, the release said.

Meanwhile, police arrested Amirul Sheikh, 34, with home-made weapons and four rounds of ammunition in the early hours of today at the Deyara area in Dighalia upazila in Khulna.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dighalia Police Station M N Shahin said as part of the ongoing operations, police conducted a raid, based on secret information, in Deyara village and arrested Amirul Sheikh.

Upon interrogation, four rounds of ammunition and a home-made cattle- slaughtering knife were recovered from the attic of his house.

Separate cases have been filed under the Arms Act with the respective police stations in these connections.
