Mobile court seizes 62 kg of banned polythene in Magura

MAGURA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court conducted drives and seized 62kg of polythene from two shops at Alokdia Bazar under Magura Sadar upazila on Monday, led by the Department of Environment, Magura district office.

The operation was conducted by Assistant Commissioners and Executive Magistrates Md. Rafat Al Mehdi and Md. Saidun Nabi Zoha. Shoaib Mohammad Shoaib, Assistant Director of the Department of Environment, oversaw the prosecution process.

Officials from the district administration, district police, and the Department of Environment extended overall cooperation during the drive.

During the raid, 22 kg of banned polythene shopping bags were seized from Sumon Store and 40 kg from Al Amin Store. The shop owners were fined Taka 5,000 and Taka 8,000 respectively.

In total, 62 kg of banned polythene was seized and fines amounting to Taka 13,000 were collected, according to the Department of Environment.

Officials said that regular drives will continue across the district to curb the use of banned polythene and ensure environmental protection.
