PABNA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson's Special Assistant and Central Sramik Dal Chief Coordinator Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas today said the people of the country were liberated through the fall of the autocratic government of Sheikh Hasina in the July Uprising.

"The students and people of the country made this possible. People from all works of life sacrificed their lives," he said while distributing cheques to cultural activists at Pabna Shilpakala Academy.

He said that countless people were killed in the July Uprising. The bodies were loaded into vehicles and burned, he added.

"There are still bodies lying in the morgue of Dhaka Medical College, whose identities have not been found," he added.

"If any person went against their (autocratic government) beliefs, they were tortured. The people of the country had to endure endless torture."
Highlighting fascist Hasina's oppression of cultural workers during the fascist era, Shimul said a continuous crackdown was imposed on cultural workers.

"If any artist composed a song against the murderer Hasina, he or she would be harassed in various ways," he added.

He said, "If we want to change our destiny, we have to do it ourselves. We must have the mentality of striving and sacrificing. Everyone must have the generosity to assume leadership."

Pabna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mafizul Islam, Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JSSS) central committee member Ithun Babu, Pabna Press Club General Secretary Jahurul Islam, BNP district unit Senior Joint Convener Abdus Samad Khan Mantu, and Joint Convener Mohammad Masum Boga, among others, addressed the event with JSSS Pabna unit President Khaled Hossain Porag in the chair.
