CHATTOGRAM, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS) - Omi Das, a constable of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), was arrested for allegedly leaking a confidential message of the CMP Commissioner transmitted via walkie-talkie.
The constable was taken into custody Sunday night from Khulshi police station, where he had been serving in the CMP telecom department on deputation, confirmed CMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Mahmuda Begum.
Following initial investigations, police detained Omi Das and filed a case against him at Khulshi police station under the Official Secrets Act.
The secret message, issued on August 12 on behalf of CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz, instructed police officers to open fire, including using live ammunition, if they encounter miscreants carrying illegal firearms or sharp weapons.
The directive came in the aftermath of a midnight attack in Eshan Mistirir Hat under Bandar thana, where a sub-inspector was injured during an altercation with terrorists linked to the banned Awami League and Juba League, who had organized a sudden procession.
The CMP Commissioner's message soon went viral on various social media platforms.
