NU VC for developing students as skilled human resources

DHAKA, Aug 18, 2025 (BSS)- National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr ASM Amanullah has said NU affiliated colleges have taken pragmatic initiatives to create skilled human resources in the country.
  
“As part of this, the syllabus of the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate classes have been moderated...and the subjects on ICT and English were made mandatory,” he said.

U VC was speaking at the students’ orientation programme for the undergraduate classes of 2024-25 academic year under the National University at Lalmatia Government Women's College here today, said a NU press release.

Over 900 colleges from all over the country virtually joined in the program.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr SMA Faiz was present as the chief guest while Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Mohammad Shafiqul Alam and the Representative of UNICEF in Bangladesh Mrs Rana Flowers attended as the special guests.

NU Director of the Teachers’ Training Department Salma Parveen, Acting Dean of NU’s School of Undergraduate Education Dr. Ashek Kabir Chowdhury and Lalmatia Government Women's College Principal Prof Jahanara Zaman also spoke on the occasion.
 
The NU VC said about 90 percent students of country’s higher study level is enrolled with NU. NU take taken initiative to provide education on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science Aimed at making the huge number of students into human resources to cope them with the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
 
In addition, he said 50,000 students will be trained up on freelancing in the first phase with the NU’s own funding. 
 
Emphasizing on improving the quality of education, he said initiatives have been taken to reform the examination system as well as motivate the students to return to their classrooms.
 
He hoped that 70/80 percent session jam will be resolved by 2026.

Prof Amanullah said financial grants have been given to the families of students of the NU-affiliated colleges who were martyred during the July Uprising. Besides, the family members of the martyrs and the injured students were made free while the NU is also introduced scholarships in memory of the July martyrs, he added. 

Welcoming the new students, the UGC chairman said July-August mass uprising is a biggest testament of students' honesty and courage.
 
Keeping this spirit in mind, he advised the freshers to build up them as skilled manpower.

Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Mohammad Shafiqul Alam said information technology has become essential in today's lifestyle. However, everyone should be aware to keep themselves safe from cyber bullying.

At the beginning of the program, one-minute-silence was observed to pay tribute to the martyrs of the War of Independence and the July Revolution.

The orientation programme was followed by a pleasant cultural event
