No white stone looter will be spared: MoPA secretary

SYLHET, Aug 22, 2025 (BSS)- Senior Secretary of the Public Administration Ministry Dr Mokhles ur Rahman has said none involved in the looting of white stone in Sylhet will be spared, no matter how influential they are.

The public administration secretary said this while talking with reporters after visiting Bholaganj white stone quarry here today.

The cabinet division formed a five member committee headed by Dr Mokhles ur Rahman on August 20 to identify the persons involved with the looting of white stone.
  
He said that special package program will be taken so that none can lift white stone from the area and other tourist spots. At the same time the area will be brought under CCTV camera surveillance round the clock.

During the visit, mineral resources division secretary Saiful Islam, Divisional Commissioner of Sylhet Khan Reza-un-Nabi, Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam and other officials concerned were present.

The investigation committee members also spoke to local people and government officials for stocktaking on white stone looting.

The committee has been instructed to identify the responsible persons and submit a report within next 10 days.

The government formed the committee to investigate illegal stone extraction in Bholaganj tourist spot and railway bunker area of Companiganj.

The environment and the aesthetic view of the tourist spot have been severely damaged due to illegal stone extraction from there.  

The government has taken initiative to investigate the matter after news on illegal stone extraction was published in media.
